I am delighted to learn of your interest in Pershing School at Chelsea.  Choosing a school that is right for your student is an exciting endeavor. 

Most Pershing students have a language-based learning disability that affects their performance in acquiring basic reading, writing and math skills. Specifically, they have difficulty decoding words, comprehending lengthy passages, writing with grammatical accuracy, translating ideas into a coherent written form, computing math problems, learning and retaining math facts, and applying math facts and concepts in problem solving.

Pershing students have many strengths, in spite of their learning disability. Pershing School at Chelsea prides itself on an educational philosophy, which in addition to academics, emphasizes the growth of the whole student with particular emphasis on the development of character, self-esteem, social skills and community responsibility. All students are challenged in their areas of strength, weakness and giftedness. In addition, Pershing School at Chelsea offers competitive soccer, basketball, and softball teams for students who enjoy athletics.

To ensure Pershing School at Chelsea is able to meet every student’s needs, each applicant is given careful consideration through the admissions process. The Admissions Committee thoroughly reviews each application.  The school interviews applicants who seem appropriate for Pershing’s program and parents meet with the Director of Admissions. Finally, the applicant spends one day attending classes, which gives Pershing’s teachers an opportunity to work with the applicant and provide feedback to the Admissions Committee. The admissions process takes four to six weeks for most applicants.
