Halloween 2004
By Jenna and Kara

The second annual Halloween party was held on Friday, October 29, 2004 in the Green Room. The Green Room was decorated with balloons and pictures of jack-o-lanterns, cats, streamers, ghosts, bats and leaves.

Most everyone dressed up in costume; I came as a chic diva. Liam and his brother, Cormac, came dressed up as Revolutionary soldiers. We had a costume contest and the 1700’s soldiers, Liam and Cormac, won the contest. Turquoise dressed as a Santa Claus, Natalie dressed as the phantom of the opera, Alex dressed as the Grim Reaper and Leigh was dressed as a monster.

We had games, music and food. The games were apple bobbing, candy tossing, and twister. Our music was from students’ CDs. Our food was candy, sandwiches, sodas, chips, pretzels, cookies, cupcakes, cheese puffs, and juice. By the end of the day all of the food was on the table or in people’s stomachs.

Rocket Club
By James and Austin

In rocket club we have been trying to build a container to successfully be dropped with a raw egg inside without breaking. On Friday, October 1, 2004 the rocket club successfully dropped a box with a raw egg inside from the fire escape in the back of the Pershing School building. We wanted to drop the box from the roof of the Chelsea School building but the door is always locked.

Then on Friday October 8, 2004 we made a duplicate of the box we had made the previous week. Then we made a rocket body out of cardboard. We also made a box case and slipped the body into the box case and added a bag of rocks for weight. We then taped it up and threw the rocket over the railing of the fire escape of the Pershing School building. We then found out the box case had kept the eggs safe.

The purpose of the rocket club is to win $60,000 for the schools. The rules of the competition are to design, build, and fly a model rocket carrying two eggs and return them safely to the ground while the rocket stays in the air for 60 seconds while the rocket has a limited amount of real rocket fuel. Mr. Darefsky and Mr. Conklin are the sponsors for the rocket competition.

Alex also participates in the Rocket Club
